Building self-confidence to become a stronger writer

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

Greetings, Good Morning!

Happy Monday! I hope all is well and that you're off to having an amazing day. This afternoon, I want to think about self-confidence, and its importance for becoming a stronger writer. Having a strong sense of self has been important to me in all aspects of my life. So, naturally it was important for me to carry this self-confidence into my writing. In this blog post, I wanted to briefly share some my suggestions for becoming more self-confident in order to strengthen your writing.

Every writer knows the weird and cringing feeling of having others read our work. Some of us, don't not think of the technicalities of writing in the midst of doing it, and it isn't until someone reads our work that our grammatical shortcomings are on perpetual "front street." Or, maybe it's the thought of having others read your most intimate thoughts that make you uneasy. Having these feelings definitely affect your self-confidence. Today, I want to motivate you to become a stronger writer, and it first begins with your self-confidence. Believing in oneself is the first step in gaining self-confidence. As writers, many of us are, self described introverts, and with that said it's sometimes difficult in the beginning of our writing careers to allow others to read and critique our work for many reasons, but we don't have to be. Opening yourself up and allowing others into your writing world can give you a sense of pride. It shines a beam of light into your writing world. The spark that we receive from getting valuable feedback from our reading audience is what keeps us going! It gives you the inspirational push to write more. Being strong enough to hear the honest opinions of your reading audience will help you to develop the tough skin needed to hear the hard truths about your work.

I would like to recommend an excellent article that describes, 6 Characteristics Every Great Writer Has In Common by Kaleigh Moore. It is important to strive to possess the qualities listed in this article such as:

*Attention to Detail

*Discipline

*Clarity

*Strong Vocabulary

*Open to Changes

*Passion for Reading

As you can imagine, each of these qualities are vital to a writer because, they go hand-in-hand with your self-confidence. These qualities are the very foundation of your self-confidence as a strong writer, and the building blocks to being the best of the best at your craft. So focus your attention daily on making sure you're solid in these areas, and sharpening your skills to become stronger. Everyday, I look for ways to exercise my writing muscles.

As I close, I would like to just reiterate how refreshing it is to follow and learn from other indie authors that are experiencing the same struggles and wins. For me, I'd much rather learn from individuals that are much more tangible than the typical well-known authors/writers. Their lessons learned are far more meaningful for me. They are part of the reason, why I have better self-confidence in myself and have experienced growth as a writer. I hope that from this post, you may be able to glean helpful tips to become a better writer from my experiences too.

Peace and have a blessed and wonderful #MotivationMonday !
